RS universal strip till drilling

Band drilling has many advantages over traditional seed drills, one of the keystones is reducing soil disturbance and empowering nature to do its job – keeping its fields alive. Regenerative farming is not just a cool trend, it is a fascinating journey allowing farmers to benefit themselves while diminishing erosion and enriching their prime tool – soil. Laumetris strip tilling concept is designed to accomplish top priority goals for well-prepared seeding: cultivating soil only where it is needed while keeping most of it undisturbed, spreading mineral fertilizers and spraying starting liquid fertilizers, developing great seedbeds and finishing with high precision drilling. And all these operations proceed in a single go directly into stubble just after you finished harvesting, fitting into complex agriculture seeding terms.

Laumetris RS strip till drill is the successor of rapeseed drill RSL. Our engineers have put a lot of effort into taking over key factors of RSL success and adapting farmers requirements. Drills are relatively simple to control and functional: front cutting discs controlled hydraulically and protected with rubber suspension, every tine is equipped with a hydraulic cylinder working as a protection with adjustable pressure, as well all tines can be lifted any time in case of excessive residues and clogging, rear seeding section is also adjusted hydraulically and protected with rubber suspension – maintaining stable seeding depth throughout different soil conditions.

Special wear resistant “Hardox” steel is used on crucial points to extend longevity of the machine and keep precise working and seeding depth. Tines are manufactured fully from “Hardox” steel, as well as main tine wings, all scrappers on wheel rollers and pressing wheels of the seeding section. Scrappers are positioned in a way that wet ground is removed as soon as it sticks, maintaining the same working depth and the most importantly seeding depth. In the case of flat tire, the removable is very easy and definitely doesn’t need to take apart half of the machine in order to accomplish it.

As in RSL drills, a decision was made to use Austrian pneumatic seeders. Decision was very clear – developing elite drills requires usage of only leading components, which is APV in the seeding industry.

Stainless steel tank for fertilizers assures durability and automatic rate control provides stress-free usage of the machine. Control of liquid or mineral fertilization systems is done through the APV control box or ISOBUS. Calibration is quick and simple.

Seeds are being distributed through 15 cm width bands, spacing between bands is 18 cm on RS-3 model and 21 cm on RS-4 model respectively. By increasing distance between strips, we reduce competition between plants. Crop, having more nutrition from ground and space, plus the additional absorption of sun, manages to grow taller spikes. Roots are more branched out concentrating higher reserves. Such a plant has much higher yield potential compared to a conventionally seeded crop. So to speak, a lower seeding rate brings the same or even better yields.

Quick change coulters are used for rapeseed planting, therefore strip spacing is 33 cm for RS-3 and 36 cm for RS-4 model respectively. Even though it is not 50 cm as we recommend, still it is way better than in conventional till.

Universal strip till drilling combines the best attributes of both no tillage and conventional tillage technologies

1) Stubble is the best protection against erosion, as well topsoil protection highly reduces moisture evaporation, prevents weeds growing. Stubble also helps to linger snow during winter – better probability to withstand cold.

2) Soil is being tilled only at the seeding zone and narrow strip beneath it – the rest is untilled keeping soil structure unbroken. Low disturbance keeps soil aggregates intact, which benefits better water infiltration, maintains organic matter, keeps mycorrhizal fungal networks.

3) Earthworms are a sign of a healthy soil. It helps to convert old stubble to nutrients for freshly sprouted plants and improves soil fertility.

4) Laumetris RS and RSL drills prepare seedbeds in the best conditions for rapid germination. One of the key factors is bringing moisture to topsoil from beneath.

5) Mineral fertilizers are distributed throughout 5-15 cm of depth. 2/3 clients using Laumetris strip till drills combined together with mineral (BF) and liquid (LF) fertilization systems. Spraying of start-up liquid fertilizers adds up to rapid sprouting, mineral fertilizers are being consumed at a later stage.

6) Strip till technology enables farmers to reduce seeding rate as plants receive more sun, have less competition, better conditions to sprout, grow, have more side branches, stronger stems, are healthier and harvest results at the end stay the same or even increased. Comparing how many tillage processes are dropped, fuel and time saved – strip till technology highly increases profitability of the farm. CO2 emissions are reduced as a consequence of using strip till.
